iMessage not working for phone number

iMessage does not allow me to select only my phone number to send messages. Keeps sending from my Apple ID.

iPhone 14 Pro, iOS 16

If you are having difficulty adding your number for use in iMessages, begin by following the guidance found here:


Add or remove your phone number in Messages or FaceTime - Apple Support


"Set up your phone number

On your iPhone:

  1. Go to Settings > Messages and make sure iMessage is turned on. You may need to wait a moment for it to be activated.
  2. Tap Send & Receive. If you see "Use your Apple ID for iMessage", tap it and sign in with the same Apple ID that you use on your Mac, iPad and iPod touch.

  4. In the "You can receive iMessages to and Reply From" section, make sure your phone number and Apple ID are selected.
  5. Go to Settings > FaceTime and make sure your phone number and Apple ID are selected in the "You can be reached by FaceTime on" section."
