Monterey 12.6

Since upgrading to the above my external USB, SSD and HDD drives, are being randomly ejected. Once ejected my Logitech keyboard and Penguin mouse will also not operate. The issue with the discs appear to be happening to others on various forums, and is concerning as the external drives are used for backup.

Are apple issuing a fix for this or should I go back to an earlier OS, and if so how do I do that without losing all data?

A - As we are all fellow user like yourself - it is Only Apple that can Answer the first part of your question.

A - As for Going back to older version of macOS - possible but only as Last Resort

A - Exactly how are the External Drives connected to the computer would be a good start ?

Q - " Logitech keyboard and Penguin mouse will also not operate. "

A - How does this relate directly to the External Drives " randomly ejected " ? Some reliable details and context would help.

Thanks for your response. Sorry I am not very tech savvy but I'll give it a go!

The SanDisk 1Tb SSD is connected to the back USB port on the Computer which is iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2015),3.2 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i5, 32 GB 1867 MHz DDR3. The internal drive was replaced with 1Tb SSD when the original failed over 18 months ago. The external HDD is a Seagate Backup Plus Desktop Drive 3Tb connected via USB at the rear of the computer.

The Logitech keyboard has a USB Receiver? plugged into the back of the computer as does the Penguin mouse.

I get the warning messages that both discs have been ejected followed later by the keyboard and mouse freezing, so I have to reboot.

The time period between start up and disc ejection varies but up to about 3 hours?

I hope this is helpful?

A - One of the few that were successful to Install Monterey to a Non Original Internal Drive

There are reports appearing on the ASC Forums regarding failed installation of Monterey on older Qualifying Apple Computers. In most cases this is related to having a NON Apple Original Internal Drive ?

The EFI Boot ROM included in Monterey is verifying for Original Apple Drive and if not found , may Balk or fail to upgrade to Monterey.

Reports indicate the EFI BOOT ROM is Required to Flash the Computer and is a  requirement for a Successful Monterey Installation.

A - Third Party Bluetooth Devices with Third Party Software to Control the devices is problematic. Would suggest checking with the Developers of each of the two devices for updated or upgrades to there respective software that is specifically Monterey Compatible .

Thanks for your very helpful response. Does that mean that I cannot reinstall any operating system as it is not an Apple original HDD or just Monterey? Incidentally I went out yesterday and left the machine running and there were two disc ejection messages for each external drive which, with my limited knowledge, would suggest that the discs are connected again and dropout for a second time?

It means running Monterey directly from an External Drive is problematic at Best and frequently the Performance is degraded

As for External Drives for TM Backup or Addition usages - the Computer is already running from an External Drive and adding additional External Drives for other purposes maybe Taxing the Computer Ability to Function as Expected.

Would suggest you consider the great advise for @Mal-S above re-Self Powered versus USB Powered
