Update apple tv fails.

Update apple tv fails. Instructions on Apple TV say to restart Apple TV and try again. Same failure to update after restarting multiple times. Some apps on the Apple TV will not start up. The messages say the app will not run because Apple TV needs updated. In the past, I connected the Apple TV to my MacBook Pro to reset the Apple TV and it worked correctly each time.

Is it possible to update the Apple TV by plugging it into my MacBook Pro?
