Conditional highlighting with a color scale

Is it possible with Numbers to use conditional highlighting with a color scale?

I want colors to automatically change intensity based on the values in a selected cell range. However, I have two conditions for this:

1) I don't want the colors to be based on static value levels, but rather relative to the maximum and minimum values in the selected cell range.

2) I want a wide and continuous range of color intensities, ie not just a listed range of 5 or 10 levels or so.

(Many other spreadsheet applications have this feature, eg Google Sheets)

#1 can be done, with additional cells that are calculated based on the min / max value

As long as you have a handful of different groups.

#2 is currently not possible, "continuous range of color intensities" is not available.

You would have to create steps of color intensities that will work for you.

It would be helpful if you could post an example of what you want to achieve, that will help to give a good answer.

What is the reason why you want to use Apple Numbers and not Google Sheets?

Pick the one that works best for you, each Software has good and bad areas. You must make a decision on what works best for you.

I personally run Microsoft Excel and Apple Numbers, based on the task that I have to perform.

Hi Rich,

Hi Léo,

currently that is not possible with Apple Numbers.

I would recommend that you send a Feedback / Request to Apple, only they can implement something like this.

Product Feedback - Apple

Please describe exactly what you want and why this would be a benefit for all Apple Numbers User.

Best case they will see the benefit of this concept and implement it in one of the next versions.

Hi Rich and Ralf, jumping in here because I'm looking to do the exact same thing!

My use case is that I am plotting speed on the x-axis, heart rate on the y-axis and I'd like to have a continuous range of colour for the points based on the date of the run. This would enable me to track my heart fitness (increasing speed but decreasing heart rate) over time. Does that make sense? I've attached an example that's missing the colour based on the date.

Cheers,

Léo

Yes Léo, your use case does make sense and is similar to mine.

@Ralf-F, thanks for your replies. I did however mean that both my specified conditions should be met simultaneously.

I always try to use Apple’s software first since I like both their user interfaces and ideology, ie I trust them more than Google. However, it seems they are lagging behind feature-wise in Numbers.
