Heart rate detection on dives with depth app

I’ve been using my Apple watch ultra the past week during dives to try out the depth app but mainly to track my heart rate for daily activity and exertion levels. I am a professional diver and spend about 3-4 hours a day under water (shallow dives), and was hoping to use the Ultra for tracking all of the health metrics and not necessarily as a backup dive computer.

I’ve noticed that the watch doesn’t do a single heart rate measurement when the depth app is open or I’m diving. Is there a reason for this? Or am I going to have to try to record each dive as a workout to force the readings. Not sure if this is an oversight with the app or a particular feature that’s been purposely omitted.

Thanks!

Greetings brpaterson,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. Per the Apple Support article: "When you dismiss that summary in the Depth app, you'll be able to see the data for water temperature and depth in a timeline within the Health app, but not the other metrics." So what you are experiencing with using that app is expected. You can get complete details here: Use the Depth app on Apple Watch Ultra - Apple Support
