Is there any way in late 2022 to force iCloud to sync?

Hi there,

I rely on iCloud to sync the database for my new password manager. Using a keyboard makes creating worthwhile (complex) passwords possible. So, I much prefer to create new accounts or to update passwords on my MBP and then often to immediately or quickly use it on my iPhone.

This was fine using 1Password, but I am migrating to Strongbox, I don't like being forced to use a subscription and a cloud based service. 1Password has been fantastic for years now, but I am changing to Strongbox.

However iCloud provides no mechanism to start a sync between a device and the iCloud service, not on the Mac and not on the iPhone. Nor does it provide any clue when a sync is done or is going to be done.

Does anyone know of any method to reliably cause an iOS or macOS device to sync with iCloud?

I have tried the usual workarounds without much joy: creating or deleting files on iCloud on this or that device, or creating fake events using iCal, etc.

I have sent a message to Apple requesting this feature, if you would like to as well here is the link for doing that: Product Feedback - Apple

All the best to you all.

You trigger a sync by either connecting to power and locking the device, or by changing any data that is part of a sync. There is no need to force a sync as simply changing synced data starts a sync. You will never know how long a sync takes, it depends on the amount of data being synchronized and whether an iCloud backup is also happening.

I asked if there is a way to trigger iCloud to sync, or to reliably know how long it will take.

Your reply does not answer either question.

Except too imply by the absence of any answer that there is

A: Not a way to trigger sync,

and

B: That there is no way to know how long syncing will take to start or to complete.
