I can’t find edit in messages to recover recently deleted

If you deleted this message prior to installing iOS 16 then if it is in your backup you will need to restore your iPhone from your backup to retrieve it. You will lose any data added since the date/time of that backup.

Where it is on my iPhone:

I open the Messages app.

It is at the top left corner of that screen (i.e., the main screen in Messages)

I can not retrieve deleted messages. No button edit to find
