Airplay iPhone 12 to iPad Air 4th gen?

Both on latest ios/iPadOS. Can you connect iPhone 12 to iPad Air via Bluetooth? Trying to screen cast/airplay from iphone to iPad. Keeps saying unsuccessful when trying through Bluetooth.

You cannot pair an iPhone and iPad via Bluetooth. They are not designed to do that. AirPlay is not pairing via Bluetooth. See this about AirPlay. Use AirPlay to stream video or mirror the screen of your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
