For the OP: are the little lights blinking on the reader? Sometimes it helps to remove and re-insert the card.

Have you tried reaching out to the IT folks behind the website?

Are you giving an option to select a certificate? sometimes you can re-choose the credential on the card. I usually get this error when my card wasn't read properly.
