My hard drive is not showing up on my laptop (Macbook Pro 2019 13" macOS Catalina) but does on other devices. This has recently started happening. It will show there is something there in the disk utility but it is not the same name as the hard drive.
I have tried to unmount using terminal etc.

Something isn't making sense. I can't think of a reason it would not appear.
Try the usual fixes: restart your Mac, perhaps restart it in Safe Mode: How to use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support. Try a different USB cable; try a different USB port.

It isn't showing on my laptop at all, and therefore I have no access to the files on it.
I can use other apple devices (for instance my ipad pro) to use the hard drive however. I have previously tried the method you have mentioned but to no avail.
Hi, it's an external hard drive that isn't showing. Like I say it appears on my Ipad when connected to that, so the hard drive is working still. It appears the problem arises when it is connected to my macbook.
The Finder menu > Preferences... > General also has a selection to show External disks. Does that help?
What kind of hard disk drive is it? It may not be formatted in a manner the Mac can recognize without installing something from its manufacturer.
No I've tried that previous. It's a WD My Passport. It had been working fine, along with all the others I have and then randomly didn't read on my macbook once it was plugged in. Like I say on other devices it is showing.
Apologies for the delay. So in Disk Utility, it shows as AppleAPFSMedia rather than the name of the hard drive. If I try to run first aid, it shows an error.
I will try to restart in Safe Mode and see if that fixes the issue.
It is driving me crazy as it was working two days ago!
Where are you looking for it to appear?
For example if you want to see its icon on your Mac's Desktop, select Hard disks in the Finder menu > Preferences... > General.
Another method is to use the Finder's Go menu > Computer.
Macintosh HD should appear (assuming you did not change that default name).
