usb-c to displayport adapter not working on macbook pro 2018

I bought a usb-c to displayport adapter from Cable Matters on Amazon to connect a second monitor from my macbook pro, using a displayport cable. However, no input recognized. I tried many ways to troubleshoot, figuring out if the macbook pro with 4 usbc ports actually support displayport, as well as checking out apple's article on how to connect a display, and other discussion forums looking for the same issue, but I still can't figure out a solution. This is the third time I got this kind of adapter and the second brand I bought. So frustrating and confusing this is overwhelming me. Also to mention that the displayport cable is actually displayport to dvi, so maybe this is the reason why the adapter doesn't work? Especially as I remembered that this cable did work through a docking station I had, associated with my work laptop from my previous intern. Any help and breakdowns is appreciated. I need a break 😩
