Buy music after cancelling Apple Music

Hello,

A little while ago I cancelled Apple Music and was very annoyed to find most music disappear. They didn't simply become unplayable, I wasn't prompted to buy. Everything was just deleted. Does that still happen?

I'm now wanting to again cancel or pause my subscription and buy music, but I would like to avoid a repeat of losing everything. Will everything still disappear if I cancel now, or has Apple realised it's better to make it unplayable until purchased or resubscribed? Is there anything at any point (perhaps in the "Songs" view that identifies a song as purchased or not? I've enabled the "Purchase Date" column which might be the answer but I was just hoping for something without adding an extra column.

I have as a precaution exported my Apple Music Library and some favourite playlists.

Thank you for your help.

Hi,

You will lose access to music downloaded from your Apple Music subscription. You should keep your previously purchased music. Use iCloud status to identify “Apple Music “ and “Purchased” tracks. If need to Redownload music - Apple Support. Other “Matched “ and “Uploaded “ tracks need to been downloaded to your computer.
