Problems with a PowerPC 8500. Help!

Just tried to restart my 1995(?) powerpc 8500/150. I get a momentary flash of the power light and then it shuts down. I hear a noise briefly that is either the power unit starting up/shutting down or the hard drive. I replaced the cmos battery but no change upon attempted starting. I also re-seated the ram video card and usb card. Reconnected the cdrom, hard drive, and 3.5 floppy drive both the power connections and the interface cables. What is my next move? How can I test the power supply?

Hi,

Any signs of leaking/bulging electrolytic capacitors on the logic board?

Bad capacitors in the power supply cannot be ruled out, but a repair must not be attempted for safety reasons.

You could perhaps check (with a multimeter) whether DC output voltages (3.3 V, 5 V, +/- 12 V) are OK (under proper load conditions).

Try resetting the Parameter RAM (or PRAM), to eliminate any corruption that may have occurred to it after the battery lost all charge. Immediately upon pressing the power button, simultaneously press/hold these 4 keys: Command + Option + P + R. Assuming that you hear the startup tone, continue holding down those keys until you hear the startup tone a 3rd time, then release them. Hopefully, the 8500 will boot normally.
