Mouse clicking on Monterey OS 12.6

Since updating my iMac to Monterey OS 12.6, mouse clicking is excessively and universally buggy. I get the back and other options, I can't simply open an app or a link in a browser. When I try to type something in a search box I get the emoji option and it takes 4 tries to get rid of it.

We're all used to bugs in Apple OS's but this is infernal and almost makes my iMac unusable. I've updated, hoping for a fix, but none so far.

If all else fails give this a try: boot into Safe Mode according to How to use safe mode on your Mac and test to see if the problem persists. Reboot normally and test again.

NOTE: Safe Mode boot can take up to 3 - 5 minutes as it's doing the following;

• Verifies your startup disk and attempts to repair directory issues, if needed

• Loads only required kernel extensions (prevents 3rd party kernel/extensions from loading)

• Prevents Startup Items and Login Items from opening automatically

• Disables user-installed fonts

• Deletes font caches, kernel cache, and other system cache files

Don't stay in Safe Mode. Booting into save mode is primarily to accomplish the following:

NOTE: if you have a wireless keyboard with rechargeable batteries connect it with its charging cable before booting into Safe Mode. This makes it act as a wired keyboard as will assure a good boot into Safe Mode.

Unfortunately, it stopped working and I am back with the same infernal problem--can't get away from the "Back" option, emoji's when I want to input text into a search box, etc., etc.

And it occurs with all my apps. And it started when I upgraded the OS to Monterey 12.4 and then 12.6 when I was hoping there'd be a fix.

I'm used to Apple OS bugs but this one is the worst.

I wouldn't rule out a software bug. It happens on my trackpad or my bluetooth mouse. I can use two fingers on my trackpad to right click, and right click works on the bluetooth mouse. I've rebooted and it still comes back usually after the machine goes to sleep sporadically. Because it's so sporadic, I don't know if booting into safe mode would even help. I've also tried resetting the SMC (MBP with T2 chip) and reset the NVRAM, and it still crops back up. It's very annoying because I can't reboot multiple times a day.

Thanks so much. This worked for me!

Was so annoying... whipped myself into a frenzy trying to fill out an online check-in form for a doctor :)

All resolved. Thanks again!

Ok, but it started as soon as I installed and restarted. That's a clue, wouldn't you say?

Or maybe it is my iMac which I bought 2 years ago. Old!!

I dunno... I guess I'll just use my iMac less.
