How do I insert the South African currency code into a cell formatted to convert a specific $ amount into rand? IE: CURRENCY("$45"'"ZAR")
I'm trying to make a cell that will keep an updated conversion of $45 in South African Rands.
iMac 24″, macOS 12.6
Here's the general syntax for the CURRENCY function:
So you could do the conversion with something like this:
=A2*CURRENCY(A$1,B$1,0)
If your region uses , as a decimal separator then use ; instead of , in the formula.

In general, though, it is not always best practice to "hard-code" values into a formula like that, because it makes it harder to change things or figure out what you did when you come back to the document some time later. That is why I suggested having the currency symbols and dollar amount outside the formula.

Thank you for your response. What I need though is for the one cell to convert $45 to ZAR. I seem to have the syntax but I can’t find how to insert the ZAR currency code. Any currency code except ‘Dollar’ for that matter.
Ok I finally got it!
=CURRENCY("USD", "ZAR", "price") will convert $1 to ZAR.
=45*CURRENCY("USD", "ZAR", "price") will convert $45 to ZAR
