iPad 6 gen not turning on after failed update. iTunes throws error 4042.

A perfectly fine iPad went through a failed auto update from iPadOS 15.4 to 15.6.1 to never turn on again. Only detected in DFU mode in iTunes but every time iTunes throws unknown error 4042 a while after "waiting for iPad" step.

Tried updating with iPadOS 15.6 and 15.7, still same error. Searching in forums I think this is a bug in iPadOS 15.5 and above for iPad 6 gen. Has anyone found the solution?

Error #4042 is not listed in Apple’s support documentation. As such you would be best advised to seek assistance directly from Apple Support.

You can contact the Support Team using the Get Support link at top-right of this page. Alternatively, if you have access to another Apple device, you can initiate and manage your support cases using the excellent Apple Support App. If not already installed, the App can be downloaded from the App Store:

You might also visit the Genius Bar at your local Apple Store or Apple Authorised Service Provider (AASP) - where the technicians will be able to test and assess your iPad:
