I was told today at Apple Store Aventura that Migration Assistant could no longer be used and that I should schedule a call with Apple to migrate the days of my old MacBook If to the new one I purchased. I returned the new computer.

Why did Apple decide not to allow use of Migration Assistance? Isn’t it silly?

MacBook, macOS 11.1

Who ever told you that was very sadly mis-informed.

Migration Assistant is the preferred way to transfer data from an older Mac to another. Most reliable and hassle free method is from a Time Machine backup.

There is no need to go to an Apple Store unless you find that you have a problem you can't solve yourself or via phone/chat.
