M1 Mac mini with G2 dock - second display not being used

As the title hints, I have a M1 Mac mini. My work, have now given me a laptop, and switching screens between the two was driving me nuts. So I bought a G2 laptop dock.

It works great - plug the cable into the mini, and a monitor comes on, the keyboard and mouse switch over, so it's much more convenient from that perspective.

The downer, is that it's only using one of two monitors, through the dock. I know the other is plugged in

and working for two reasons;

  1. It works on the windows laptop
  2. If I unplug the screen the mini chooses, everything simply pops up on the other

So it _feels_ like macOS knows it's there, but is choosing not to use it.

In displays, I can't select any kind of two screen option, and holding down "opt" never brings up the advanced menu option, that seems to be recommended for this situation. So questions;

Anyone had success with dual monitors to a Mac mini through a laptop dock?

Any suggestions?

The M1 Mac mini can drive only one display via Thunderbolt/USB-C. A second display has to use the Mac mini's HDMI port.
