what is the easiest way to move specific files/folders from an old mac to a new one?

Have a handful of files/folders I want to migrate to a new mac from an old one. Migration assistant doesn't seem to let me pick and choose, anyone have another way?

Migration assistant to move to a Mac that's not new? I have been using two Macs for a while for various reasons, and now I want to consolidate my stuff onto one of them. I want to move Downloads, Documents, Desktop, and Pics/Videos. I have questions about using Migration Assistant for this. Can I even use Migration Assistant to move files onto a Mac I'm already using (i.e. without wiping it)? Does it make sense to use Migration Assistant, or would it make more sense to simply copy stuff over in a more manual way (e.g. using an external hard drive as a middle step)? Migration assistant If I already used Migration assistant to get files off my old computer to put on my new mac, and then use migration assistant again to get files off a different computer onto my new mac (which I have been using), will any of my current files, preferences, photos, etc. be wiped or changed? Thank you!

Random thoughts:

Copy them to an external storage device (external drive, flash drive, etc).

Transfer them via DropBox.

Turn on iCloud Drive on both devices and move the files/folders to iCloud Drive in Finder (in the Finder sidebar or Finder "Go" menu).

AirDrop them.
