how to restore login-photo change option?

I’ve just upgraded a MBP from Big Sur > Monterey, and now the login-photo change option is missing.

On the right side of ‘Users & Groups’ (in System Preferences) the name of the user is shown as text, but there is no image field - so nothing to edit.

Any ideas what's happened - and how to fix this, and restore the option?

MacBook Pro 15″, OS X 10.11

If you hover your mouse over the image— you should see an "edit" option...

Give this a try: boot into Safe Mode according to How to use safe mode on your Mac and test to see if the problem persists. If not reset the image and reboot normally and test again.

NOTE: Safe Mode boot can take up to 3 - 5 minutes as it's doing the following;

• Verifies your startup disk and attempts to repair directory issues, if needed

• Loads only required kernel extensions (prevents 3rd party kernel/extensions from loading)

• Prevents Startup Items and Login Items from opening automatically

• Disables user-installed fonts

• Deletes font caches, kernel cache, and other system cache files
