how do I lock my iPhone screen?

Press the button on the right side of your iPhone to lock your screen

Click the right side button or just let it lock itself based on the time selected in Settings > Display & Brightness > Auto-Lock.

Note that it needs to be locked for automatic backup when charging but not for the Backup Now option.
