Macbook dvd drive to work with 2012 Mac Mini

Hello, I have a MacBook pro 2011 with a broken display, which I am connecting to my 2012 Mac Mini in target mode. I was hoping to insert a movie into my Macbook's dvd drive and watch a movie through my Mac Mini. Unfortunately, the dvd drive is being recognized as a mountable drive and not a dvd drive, thus none of my movies will play. Does anybody have an idea of a possible solution to get these two to work together? Thank you in advance

Hi,

I think you can't share MacBook Pro DVD drive from Mac mini, though if you could set up share MacBook Pro optical drive, you can use MacBook Pro DVD drive as external optical drive from your Mac mini.

Not that's authorized by Apple or that just works normally. Apple's operating systems locks out the Apple USB SuperDrive out of any Mac that had one. But if you want it to work, then LG has several fairly inexpensive tray-loading DVD writers. I have one myself, and it works with my mid-2012 Unibody MacBook Pro even though I have a working built-in SuperDrive. I rather like it just in case there's something like a 3" disc or a "business-card" CD.
