WhatsApp iCloud backup

I have weekly iCloud backup for WhatsApp and I have all the media and documents on manual download, when I click to download any photo or document it does not get stored on my device and there is absolutely nothing in my iCloud Drive, are these documents stored on my backup for WhatsApp?

if yes can I stop backing up the media and just backup the chats and how?
