I can't top up my SUICA on Apple Pay

See if the behavior persists after waiting a few minutes and trying again.

If the issue continues, download the Suica app, register an account, and ensure the card is able to be set up there. You may notice a credit exclamation mark. If so, tap the card to refresh the account.

If you're still unable to use the card, then reach out to Suica Support at 0570-78-3049 for additional assistance.

I learned (the hard way) that Suica only takes Debit Cards, not Credit Cards. Still ended up paying cash for one day passes :o

VISA cards are currently not working for Suica and PASMO recharge (top up), there's lot of discussion you can web search.

Use Mastercard or AMEX instead.

Can also top up at any station using the IC top up machines with cash if you don’t have Mastercard or Amex. Just put your phone where they say to put your physical IC. I wouldn’t hold my breath about them adding non-Japan VISA any time soon…

I am now in Kobe, it only works with my Amex(Singapore).

Just top up with AMEX, no go on MASTER & VISA (In Singapore 🇸🇬)

Strange, WISE MASTER was working well when I was in Japan two weeks ago??

Thanks. Turns out it is specific to non Japanese Visa according to JR. My Mastercard worked ok.

i couldn’t use VISA but was able to charge my SUICA with AMEX. Thank you Warashina for your advice!!

visa still isn’t working in apple wallet to buy a suica or pasmo card as of 11/21 but mastercard worked. took forever to figure this out!
