Importing images into Photos

Using an iMac on Catalina.

When I import images on an SD Card from my camera into Photos, it never imports all the images in one go.

For instance, if I want to import 30 images it will import maybe 27, then I’ll have to go back and import the remaining 3 in a second move.

This applies to two different SD Cards from two different cameras.

Automatic Import of Photos I have a Mac Studio running Sonoma 14.1.2. Canon's software for working with photos no longer works (EOS Utility). So instead of connecting my camera, I'm forced to resort to inserting the SD card, which automatically begins to import every photo on the card. I don't want to import 64 Gb of photos, I want to select the photo to import. Photos doesn't let me do this. Basically, the machine is useless for photography. I've read all the instructions, advice and replies in other similar questions and they don't work. I am an experienced IT professional with 35 plus years experience and the OS and the machine simply don't work (or if they do it's only in through a kludge).

Photo import not working Hi all, Wondering if you can help me with this one. I am attempting to import photos from a camera SD card into photos. I am opening my photos library from an external hard drive that is connected to my computer via USB, if that is potentially important. When I open photos, under "Devices" it displays the name of the SD card, and takes me automatically to the Import Screen, where I click on the blue "Import All New Photos" button on the top right. It says it is importing (says x of 3910 photos, and the total rises until it hits 3910), but the photos don't seem to go anywhere when it is done - they don't pop up in the library, imports, or recents tabs. What could I be doing wrong? What would be a good place to start for troubleshooting? Thank you!

Photos not in chronological order under imports I recently bought a new iMac running Monterey that only has USB-C ports. Since I do not have for the moment a USB-C to USB mini-B cable to connect my DSLR camera to my new Mac and since the iMac doesn't have integrated SD card reader, what I did was to import my photos via the card reader to my old iMAC running Catalina, then in Photos of my old iMAC library to "export to original" all those new photos and transfer them via a network to my new iMAC. The problem is when I import those photos to the Photo library of my new iMac, under imports in the latest imported Photos, those do not appear in chronological order. All photos have correct date and time if I look at the info, and they are photos from different times over the last couple of years. However I do not see them in correct order in imports which makes it difficult for me to organize them in albums. In the whole photo library of the Photos they do appear in the right order, but this doesn't help me since they are mixed with other photos already imported from the same events, so it is difficult for me to identify what is new and what is old in order to organize them into albums. I do not think it is a time zone thing since as I said photos are from different months, even years and still out of order and mixed in imports. Any idea what I could do to fix that issue? Your second suggestion works !

By default the images were imported to 'Library'......... and the fault appears.

But if I import to any other folder the problem isn't there; it imports all the images in one move. I just have to import to any folder other than 'Library'.

Adding an update......... I thought I had solved the problem - but I was wrong.

Importing into another folder still brings up the same fault; there are always one or two images not imported during the first import. Even with a new folder, I still have to complete the import in two moves.

Two things to try.

1 - Reformat the memory card in camera. This has fixed similar issues for others.

2 - Copy the files first to a folder on your system drive, and then import from there.
