Music Downloading Error Mac Err 21

I'm an Apple Music subscriber with a new MacBook Pro. I'm trying to download music but every time I try, I get an error message ("There was a problem downloading "Song Title". An unknown error occurred (21). Please check the connection to the network is active and try again.)

This happens on all songs I try to download and my network connection is active.

I can connect to all Apple services just fine, so I started in Apple Music Safe Mode, deleted the Downloads-Music folder, cleared the cache- and still the same issue.

I am fairly certain the issue is I keep my Apple Music library on a NAS.

What can I do to resolve this ? How can I set the NAS device to pass Apple Music ?

I spoke to AppleCare, and it is in fact an issue with my NAS. We created a new library on my local drive, and i was able to download the music I was having an issue with prior. The solution was to download it and move it over to the network drive.

Unfortunately, that work around does not solve the issue. When i start Apple Music, it still sees the song as streamed- and if I try to delete the songs, I can't add the HLS files to Apple Music.

A ticket was opened, but the real issue is Apple DRM files can't be downloaded to a NAS- that is what needs to be addressed.

You could temporarily change the media folder location to a local path, (e.g. ~/Music/Music/Media/) see if you are able to download content, then set the media folder back to your preferred location. You can then try consolidating to see if your newly downloaded files can be copied to your preferred media folder, and if so that they continue to play correctly after discarding the original copies on the local drive.

You cannot manually add protected Apple Music content to a library, Apple Music must control the download and integration to the library of the downloaded tracks. Once that is done I have been able to successfully move/rename and reconnect to downloaded tracks in both macOS and Windows, although I haven't tried moving content to a NAS.

Hopefully Apple will fix your particular issue in the next build.
