Time machine backup error 19

I have been using Time Machine to backup my iMac for years. However, I recently upgraded the IOS to Monterey and I have noticed Time Machine is no longer backing up. It takes a long time “preparing backup” and then it reports “The backup disk image …sparsebundle could not be accessed (error 19).” Time Machine can see the backup disk, and the NAS is accessible through the finder. Please help.

Unfortunately, it appears as if the backup file has become corrupted. Hold down the option key on your Mac while you click on the Time Machine "clock" icon at the top of the screen

Select Verify Backups

Let the diagnostic check run until it completes or until you see an error message appear. If a message appears, post back with the exact text of the message

The process might take 10-60 minutes or more depending on how much data is stored on the backup disk

You can watch the progress of the check by clicking on the Time Machine "clock" icon and then clicking on Open Time Machine Preferences

Did the check complete successfully?

I tried Verify Backups today and when I have returned (as it was taking a long time), there were no error messages nor any new backups. It just says waiting for first back up. And when I force a backup, it again says 'preparing backup..' and then receive this error " Time Machine couldn’t complete the backup to “xxx Time Capsule.local” The backup disk image “xxx.sparsebundle” could not be accessed (error 19)."

I will try Verify Backups once more. Appreciate if you can share what I can do next please. thanks again

Unfortunately, the next step is to erase the Time Capsule disk and start over again with a new backup.

Open AirPort Utility, select the Time Capsule, click Edit

Click the Disks tab at the top of the next window

Click Erase Disk

Select the Zero Out Data option

Click Erase

This is secure erase that will probably take 6-8 hours to complete

When the process is done, try to run a new backup
