"Backup Disk Not Available"

I've been trying to back up my hard drive to my external hard drive via Time Machine. I keep getting the error message "Backup Disk Not Available." I haven't been able to back up in three weeks. I'm running Monterey OS 12.5. Any help is much appreciated.

If it's a new drive, it's likely formatted NTFS; a Windows format. Using Disk utility, erase and format the drive with an Apple format.
