After hard drive replacement, what macOS should I be installing?

The original hard drive on my MacBook Pro 13" Unibody Mid 2012 failed. I just installed a new 1 TB SSD. Using the Recovery installation, macOS Catalina installed. Is that the best macOS for my MacBook Pro? Before the hard drive failure Mojave was installed. Any suggestions about whether i should install Big Sur or Monterey? If so, can you provide a download link and point me to instructions on how to proceed?

Thank you :)

Oh, so Catalina is the lastest OS that can be installed on my computer?

Since my last macOS was Mojave, I would think I don't have any 32 bit software. How is 32 bit software used?

In the past I did video editing using Final Cut Pro 6 or 7. Then when I installed Mojave, it was no longer compatible. I might want video edit in the future with different software. Does video editing entail using 32 bit software?

Thank you, Niel
