Macbook Pro 13in keeps opening random tabs in Firefox and Safari

I have a 2020 Macbook Pro 13" running Mac OS Monterey 12.5.1

I normally use Firefox for browsing and Safari when Firefox fails to open some content.

Both have recently started to open random tabs in addition to the site I request.

I quickly close them, but want them not to pop up in the first place.

I saw a post from 2016 regarding the same issue, but was hoping to get a more updated solution.

Most of the pop up tabs start with the following:

https://r.srvtrck.com/v1/redirect?...

And from Toromclick...

Please advise

Despite its name, please read Removing "Search Marquis" / "Search Baron" / etc on your own - Apple Community. Determine if it seems applicable to your experience. Tabs opening at random typically have similar causes.

Please write back if you need help.

The beginning part of that URL (before the v1 part) reveals the reason for browser redirects and how they work: merely loading those pages causes 💰 to accrue to the developers. It's the lowest form of life on the Internet.
