Finder Preview pane not showing selected "Show Preview Options"

Further to elisatem's question on 2022 June 25: Finder preview pane options not working in Big Sur (11.6.7)

I am on Monterey Version 12.4.

The Finder's preview pane for any file shows only the filename, file type and size, then under information I see the file created, modified, and last opened dates, and then an empty heading titled Tags.

When you click View > Show Preview Options, you get a list of information fields with checkboxes under the General heading. While the Show Preview Options dialog is up, the names of the fields that are checked appear in the preview pane (e.g. "Pages", which used to tell me the number of pages in the document/PDF):

However, once the dialog is dismissed, those fields disappear:
