Adding location to HEIC photos and videos without using photos app (Mac only)

I notice that after transfer, JPG photos will have location embedded into its metadata however the HEIC photos don't.

Is there a software or app that you can manually add to the HEIC photos AND videos?

Need more information about moving photos from My Photo Stream Shamefully little information in the article. It is not a simple matter to check the THOUSANDS of photos in My Photo Stream against the THOUSANDS of photos in the Library to see which ones are not there. How do I find this out without hours of checking? Also the direction to drag and drop photos from MPS to Library does not work. Photos will not drop. In addition, what happens when we put new photos into the Library? Does it increase our ICould usage? What alternatives are there? How about directions to download photos to a device or hard disk?

Photos location information not transferring from iPhoto to Mac Photos I noticed that the location information for my recent photos that were taken with my iPhone 11 Pro is not being transferred to my Photos app on my MacBook Pro. When I open up the information panel for each photo instead of showing the location it shows a pin with the correct location but above it says that it is looking up location information. Since that is greyed out you can't even go in and manually add the location data. I am running Ventura 13.0. I did not do any system updates, besides security ones, recently so I don't know what would have caused this. My husband has the same iPhone and computer running Ventura 13.0 and he is not having this problem. All of his photos are showing correct location information. I attempted to fix this problem after reading a previous person's suggestion of using the Photos Repair Library function. That was a mistake because now all of my thousands of photos, that previously had location information, are now missing that information. I have a backup that I can restore my photo library, and entire computer, to what it way last night before I used the repair function but if there is an easier fix I would love to know before restoring my computer. I would prefer to have this problem going forward instead of it ruining all of my information from the past.

.heic should have the same GPS as .jpg. Maybe you added it to .heic manually but used USB to transfer it to the Mac, which transfers the original? Anyways many apps (GraphicConverter, exiftool etc) can add GPS to them.

Movie metadata is a mess but at least exiftool can add or modify GPS that QuickTime Player and Photos.app display. For example:

exiftool -m -P -n -overwrite_original_in_place -Keys:GPSCoordinates='-36.6101 -66.91515 119.9' movie.mp4
