Touch Bar - Spaces - Control Strip expand problem

Thank you, I have now had a chance to get to my mac and try this. I confirm that the expanded control strip only works if "App Controls" are selected. I had not heard of this problem before, and sinceI always use the touch bar with "App Controls", I would not have found this bug.

You posted in the Monterey forum. Are you using Monterey? I ask because the threads you linked to refer to Catalina, two major versions ago. I am away from my mac but will try to test later today.

Also: did you try the things mentioned in those threads, like restarting in Safe Mode, or testing under another account, and what were the results?

If you don't really use the Fn keys as such (which I believe is the case for many users), there is a workaround to this error: in System Preferences->Keyboard->Keyboard, set "Press and hold Fn key to" to "Expand Control Strip". This does work, even with "Spaces" or "Quick Actions" selected. All you have to do is keep holding Fn when you need the extended control strip.

(Actually, I had this set already, and use this feature, mainly to adjust volume using the buttons instead of the slider; much quicker to Fn and volume up or down, rather than click on the touch bar and drag the slider)

Until this is fixed, and since you need the F1, F2, etc, all I can suggest is that you use each part of the Control Strip as needed (e.g. the audio or the brightness in turn).

I hope it gets fixed (perhaps when Ventura comes in the Fall).
