How do i know if my software will work after I upgrade from Catalina to osx 12.5 Monterey? Is there a program I can run that will identify software that's incompatible?

Apple's instructions say it's a "good idea". I say that's an understatement. To learn how to use Time Machine please read Back up your files with Time Machine on Mac - Apple Support. A Time Machine backup provides the only practicable way to "undo" a macOS upgrade.
