Apple Music skipping songs on MacBook Pro while connected to AirPods Max

Hi,

Recently I encountered a problem while listening to certain songs in Music app on MacBook Pro. I have playlists created and noticed that some songs are being skipped. I cannot play the song while going to Album or Artist page in Music app as well.

Please note that it only happens when using AirPods Max, on MacBook speakers song plays fine (no skipping). When i connect AirPods to my iPhone is also works fine. The problem only occurs with Music application paired with AirPods Max.

I have 2018 MacBook Pro with Monterey 12.5, all recent updated installed.

Tried restarting Mac, unpairing and pairing again etc.

Can you please advice?

Hi zer0cool512,

Those are really good steps you have tried, thank you for sharing with us what has already been done. We recommend resetting your AirPods Max. You can find the steps in the article below.

To restart or reset your AirPods Max:

  1. First, charge them for a few minutes.
  2. If you're experiencing issues with your AirPods Max, you can restart them. Press and hold the noise control button and the Digital Crown until the LED flashes amber.
  3. You can also reset AirPods Max to factory settings. Press and hold the noise control button and the Digital Crown for 15 seconds, until the LED flashes amber, then white.
  4. After you reset your AirPods Max, you can connect them to your iOS or iPadOS device, or connect them to your Mac or other device.

AirPods Max can be associated with one Apple ID. If you want to use AirPods Max that someone else has used, they need to first remove them from their Apple ID.

Resetting them should help with this behavior and the Music app. If you still see the same songs being missed, reach out to Apple Support by going to Get Support

Have a great day!

Hello Eric--F,

Thank you for your response.

I tried resetting them to factory settings per your instructions and the problem still persists.

First thing I wanted to clear out, these AirPods Max are associated with my Apple ID only, I am the first owner and they never been shared, although I've been using them on my work company MacBook Pro as well (there is different Apple ID there, out of my control), could this be the issue?

Also after looking closely into this problem I observed that it is connected with Lossless (ALAC up to 24-bit/48 kHZ) quality. I am using this settings on MacBook but not on the iPhone and that's probably why Music on iPhone doesn't skip songs.

There are songs that does not support Lossless quality (I can see the icon next to the song appearing or not) and before, when such song was played it automatically switched to lower quality without any problems (as expected). Now though, if I click on the song that does not support Lossless it just skips over it. If the whole album doesn't support it, it will skip all the songs in the album one by one.

It seems to me that it's definitely connected with Music app behaviour with AirPods Max on Lossless quality.

Regards,

Filip
