Can't change the default ringtone. No matter what tone i select the default tone does not change.

It sounds as though you're walking through the steps in the related article to change your ringtone, but with incoming calls it's still playing the default tone. To confirm, does this happen with all contacts or one specific contact? If it's happening with one specific contact, it's possible the tone may be customized or set to the default tone for that contact card. This can be changed by going in to Contacts, tap the contact card in question, followed by Edit, then Ringtone.

If this happens with all contacts, and the correct ringtone is selected in Settings > Sounds & Haptics > Ringtone, then the next step would be to restart your iPhone and confirm you're running the latest iOS.
