I just finished inputting data for the past 3 hours. Now excell says it is a corrupted file. How do I get it back???? (I hate microsoft!) This is the message I get: "Excel cannot open the file '~$Visitors Log for 2022.xlsx' because the file format or file extension is not valid. Verify that the file has not been corrupted and that the file extension matches the format of the file."

Try opening the file with LibreOffice or Pages. Both can open Excel files so give the a try. LibreOffice is a free alternative to MS Office.

Toad! Thanks so much. I am not a Microsoft fan. I did get on Microsoft chat and retrieved all but one page of stats (out of 10). It took hours for the chat person to figure out what was going on. I forgot that I do have Libre so that is what I will do when it happens again. Rosie
Guess here but the Tilde ~ perceeding the file name is playing up ?
Duplicate the file and give it a new name like Hello and see if it opens
