Auto lock setting

Hi, I want the screen on my 7th Generation IPad to be on all the time. I was advised to go into settings, display and brightness then to go to auto lock setting and tap on it to open up a screen where I can set it to the time to never. My problem is that the auto lock setting is set at 2 and is greyed out, so that I am not able to do any changes. Please help!!
