Apple Music bug: massive duplicates

I just spend the entire day at the Genius bar after a previous day on the phone. No one has figure out why my computer/phone sync is duplicating everything...seemingly randomly.

Most playlists are duplicated with the duplicate names with a number behind it's title and the artwork missing and usually just 1 song. When I do through my library some songs are duplicated over 100x!

I am now on day 2 of cleaning this up manually. Seriously. I think I'm about done. I may have to transfer all these years of work to spotify. Anyone, please! This is ridiculous.

For general advice on duplicates see See Duplicate songs in iTunes - Apple Community. When Apple Music is involved you would generally want to eliminate tracks that have a cloud status of Duplicate. See Identify cloud status icons in your music library on your Mac or PC - Apple Support.

See this thread for a tool that might clear up the playlists: Multiple playlists 111231441 etc - Apple Community.

Hi turingtest2,

I went through your response and wrote it up in that thread. I was unable to do anything except hand delete thousands of duplicate playlists and songs (x98 each in many cases) that were filling up my icloud and phone and put me over the 100k song limit! I spent the entire day at the genius bar but its still unresolved. They cannot figure out why the duplicates or why it's not recognizing the artwork or the inconsistencies nor where any of my recent Apple Music is! Is there an Apple Music specialist?

For safety, and for the next steps to salvage the scraps left from years of my personal work, is there any way to back up or save a playlist?

It appears not. All of the solutions I'm finding go back to itunes, burn to CD or use yet another 3rd party paid subscription to be able to transfer to another service like Spotify. I've used Songshift for all of my friends who have now given up on Apple Music. If I make an XML (even that is buggy on Apple Music!) how is that even a back up except to try to duplicate it on another service? Where is it on icloud? All of my new music is from Apple music subscription so why can't I track it down?
