Contacts data is missing on iphone

Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities. We see that you need help recovering your contacts.

Do you use iCloud for contacts? If so, check to make sure iCloud Contacts are turned on in settings. This would need to be enabled to see them on your device: Set up and use iCloud Contacts

1. "Go to Settings > [your name] > iCloud. 
2. Turn on Contacts.
3. When you're asked if you want to Merge or Cancel, tap Merge.

All of the information stored in Contacts uploads to iCloud."

If you're contacts do not appear, recover them by following the steps here: Restore contacts stored in iCloud on iCloud.com

"Restore your contacts or bookmarks from an earlier version

1. From your iPad or computer, sign in to iCloud.com.
2. Click your name at the top of the iCloud.com window, then click Account Settings. 
3. Scroll down to the bottom of the page. Under Advanced, click Restore Contacts or Restore Bookmarks.
4. Click Restore next to the date before you deleted the content.
5. Click Restore again to confirm. After the restore completes, you'll get a notification on iCloud.com and an email to the address on file with your Apple ID."

If you do not see any contacts listed here: iCloud, they may be synced using an other email address that you have set up on your iOS device. If that's the case, you will need to ensure contacts is enabled on the email address by following these steps: Settings app > Contacts > Accounts > tap the email address the contacts are synced with > make sure "Contacts" is enabled.
