Selecting a recovery individual

Have any of you every had an issue setting up a recovery contact person? The individuals I attempted to add ALL have Apple products but yet the error message said, “aren’t using iMessage” which is not the case. Please help

Recovery Contact won’t work Why does it say that my recovery contact can not be my recovery contact unless he has iMessage? It says you can only add account recovery contact who uses iMessage! So I’m thinking if that person goes into their iMessage settings and changes their way of contacting them to their email and phone number then it might work?? I’m just not understanding this. I know it is sent as a message to ask them to be the recovery contact but… need help with this please. Thanks in advance!

Account recovery contact set up error re “iMessage” I’ve repeatedly tried to set up my account recovery contact and I continue to get an error message that says the contact I chose is not using iMessage, which is not true and they actually have me set up as their account recovery contact with no issues. This error message pops up for both contacts I tried to add despite both having iMessage turned on. Please provide instructions to fix this error because I cannot turn on advanced data protection until my account recovery contact is set up.

If you already tried (to no avail) ALL the steps provided in this support article, and if you and your correspondent meet the minimum requirements:--> Set up an account recovery contact - Apple Support, contact Apple support directly, using this link:--> Get Support
