Photos slideshow changes order of my slides

How do I avoid Photos Slideshow automatically changing the order of the slides I worked so hard to set up in Slideshow? From what I've seen when I googled this question and found my way to this forum, this problem has been an issue since before March 2018. How is it that it's still occurring in August 2022? I tried the first workaround suggestion given in March (to organize the photos in desired order in your Album FIRST, then Create the Slideshow through the sidebar menu as opposed to the File menu at top). All to no avail: After setting up a new album and painstakingly putting all 240 photos in order again, Slideshow changed my order upon pressing PLAY. Fortunately, I kept searching and came across Jazebo's post in Feb. 2020 on the same issue. Their solution also called for organizing the photos in an Album first, but then Control clicking on the album's name in left menu, and choosing Edit ->Select All from top menu before going to File-> Create->Slideshow-Photos. I also did not change the name of the Slideshow; I kept it the same as the Album, as Jazebo mentioned. So far so good! The order of photos I've set in the Album did not changed when I pressed Play! THANK YOU, Jazebo!! I haven't yet tried to export it to anyone else or present on a projector, but am hopeful it will stay as is when I do. I'm a bit leery, though, as when friends have shared their Albums with me, the order of photos has changed from their original order. Not sure how to avoid that issue either.

So why is this still an issue in 2022 that Mac users have to do a Google search in order to resolve something that should be a given, with user-friendly instructions built into Photos/Slideshow, or even better - a Slideshow application that does NOT change your order? Bringing photos into an album (from another album, for example) and then dragging them from the bottom of the new album up into the rest of the slides to the desired position should also not have to be such a time-consuming process. A drag and drop process would be so much easier. Have I missed something?

The problem is, that when you select multiple photos at once to add them to a shared album or a slideshow project, Photos is treating the selection as an unordered set of photos and not as an ordered sequence of photos. Selected photos will be added in the order they are transferred, not necessarily in the order you selected them. That is why it is has been working well to select the album in the sidebar, being careful not to select any of the photos inside the album, then use "File > Create > Slideshow > Photos". This is no longer working in the most recent system version either. Apple has rarely given priority to the order of photos in albums when syncing them between devices or or adding them to projects or shared albums. The designers seem to give priority to other aspects, like matching the aspect ratio or the matching the colours, not to the sequence of photos we arranged for dramaturgical reasons to tell a story.

When I want to share a slideshow, I am now using Apple's Keynote. It has the advantage, that I can add text or animation effects and can export the finished project as a PDF file to share it. I do not have to save it as video, where it is difficult to step between the photos.

And as Yer_man already pointed out, avoid slideshow themes with fancy templates, because Photos is using the selection freely to fill the templates.

The reason the app changes the running order of the slides is to match the template - portrait and landscape shapes into the relevant shapes in the template. Using the Classic template usually causes least disruption.

As to why this hasn't changed: In general, if a question begins with why, only Apple can answer it, and you're not talking to Apple here. So when I say the reason it hasn't changed could be because it's acting exactly like Apple designed, you must remember that this is just my guess. Also remember, there are many other slideshow apps you can use and most integrate with Photos too.

Thank you for your insights! That all makes sense. I did use the Classic theme, though, hoping there would be no need for the program to juggle the photos. I’m not a user of a lot of apps, and I guess I was thinking the most user friendly way to put the photos to slides would be just using the main app, since I wasn’t looking for anything fancy/complicated. Looks like I need to do more research prior to any future projects.m, however. Thanks again for the response.
