External SSD disconnects by itself then tells me to disconnect properly

My imac running Monterey vs 12.4 (Retina 5K 27" 2020) came with a 500gig SSD, It filled up pretty fast as I used the Built-in migration app to transfer the old imac to the new one. (kinda over loaded it)anyway,the ssd got near full. So.I bought a new SSD external drive and moved many files to.

It Is there a way to stop the external ssd from improperly disconnecting itself? Oh, The new external drive is a "SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD 2 TB drive.

Yeah’ try the different cables. Then if that doesn’t help, it might be a bad chip in the enclosure. Which will require returning it for another Samsung or a refund and buying a different brand.

That sounds like a bad cable or connection.

If that drive came with both USB-C and USB-A connection cables? Try the other cable or the cable that came with the external SSD connected the older iMac.

Is the drive connected directly to the Mac or does it use some type of hub. Also, is the SSD self powered or does it have a power brick of some type?

It is connected directly to the Mac. I don't know about how its powered. I've got the same kind of SSD on an older Mac with the operating system installed on it.
