"Garageband was not able to complete the download"

Hi there,

after a clean install of HighSierra on my Mac Pro (Mid 2010) I have the following problem:

I install Garageband 6.0.5 from the AppStore (under "Purchased").

When I then start Garageband, I get the following error message:

"GarageBand was not able to complete the download."

There are already a few posts on this question, but unfortunately I couldn't find a solution to the problem.

I have already tried installing or starting GarageBand in safe mode.

Unfortunately without success.

Would be great if somebody could help me.

Try to copy GarageBand back from the backup you made before making a clean install.

Restore the GarageBand.app from the backup - it is self contained and does not need an installer. Then recover the loops and instruments from your backup of /Library/Audio/Apple Loops and from /Library/Application Support/Garageband .

Look also at the local user Library in your user home folder in the same locations for loops and sounds.

Apple is no longer suppuration the old iLife version of GarageBand well. GarageBand '11, version 6.0.5 has been replaced long ago by GarageBand 10 in2013, when  OS X 10.9 Mavericks has been released. A few years ago Apple has removed the GarageBand '11 updaters from the support downloads page and also reinstalling GarageBand from the App Store is no longer really possible, particularly the addition loops and sounds have no longer been available for a few years now,

GarageBand '11 needs old iLife frameworks, which are no longer supported in the new 64-bit only system versions since macOS 10.15 Catalina.
