Latest Version of Itunes - Allowing Duplicates on a Transfer to IOS

Hello,

I use Itunes newest PC app to upload music from my PC to my Iphone. I'm using the VLC music app on my Iphone, and I believe the trouble I'm having is a Itunes issue and not a VLC issue. I have several artists on my track list that have duplicate tracks in name, but differing lengths. This is mostly due to Live recordings.

When uploading from Itunes to VLC I am only given 2 options when duplicates are found. One is to replace duplicates with a newer version, and the other is to do nothing.

I want neither, and want all duplicates uploaded to my Iphone. There's roughly 150 tracks that are in this scenario, so it's not a trivial amount of music.

I have done a pretty good job at eliminating duplicates that are the same name, same length.

I don't see an option in the latest version of the Itunes Windows App to turn this feature off.

Can anyone suggest a work around?

I don't believe the issue is on the VLC side, based on my understanding of the issue.

Thx in advance!

PS Does anyone know where I can download an older version of Itunes that allows this to work?

Windows, Windows 10

If iTunes is managing filenames for you then you can use the show duplicates feature to reveal tracks with the same title, tweak titles slightly so you have something like <Song 1> #1, <Song 1> #2, etc. which will update the filenames, then try adding them to VLC again and see if the issue remains.

hello, thx for the reply. It appears to occur when the songs have the same "title name", and the same "file name". Based on my knowledge in IT, I had not considered that to be the potential issue. Since I generally upload the files enmass, would there be any way within IT Tunes to identify the duplicates, and then slightly rename them? If I knew in advance where they were, I could correct the issue so that it doesn't cause blocking to occur.

Thx for your advice.

hello,

I just discovered something that doesn't entirely support what you told me, but perhaps I am missing another aspect that I have not considered.

I found a song that was missing just one duplicate out of a possible three.

What's interesting is when I looked in Windows, they ALL appear to have the exact same file name, even though they are all for different albums (no duplicates within a given album).

So, I'm more confused as to how 2 of the 3 made it because i would expect only one would make it of the three if they all had the same file name in Windows. Does it matter how ITunes "sees" them vs Windows?

In addition to the point made by tt2, are you taking into account that two files can have the same filename, if the two files are located in different folders? iTunes would place each album in a separate folder, by album title.
