I recently lost my iPhone. The person who took it managed to turn off my find my iPhone. However, I managed to change my Icloud password immediately.
How can I know if they have managed to erase it?
I can still see my lost iPhone under devices that are using my icloud. what does that exactly mean?

There isn't a way to know if they erased it. Since the phone is still listed under your Apple ID, the phone is still tied to your Apple ID and whoever took the phone should eventually see an Activation Lock, which will render the phone useless.

so the activation lock will still work even if they managed to turn off find my?
They would have to be able to remove the phone from your account.
