security lockout

My husband has a new disability and forgot his passcode to his new iphone 13 pro and now is on security lockout. I know the passcode, do I now have to delete and lose all his settings by erasing the entire phone?

You will have to wipe it as below then set the phone up using the backup.

You can sometimes remedy this without a computer if on iOS 15.2 or later by tapping on "erase iPhone" , but you will still need the Apple ID password. It will WIPE the phone, no choice!
