Resolving Security Lockout on iPhone when you DO know the passcode

Hello--my parent who has cognitive impairment due to a brain tumor has had trouble remembering and entering her passcode. Recently, she entered it incorrectly so many times that the phone locked for eight hours. Unbeknownst to me, she continued to enter incorrect codes, and now the phone just says "Security Lockout" with no time frame. I *do know the passcode, and could enter it, but I can't figure out how to do so. Searching online only offers options to erase the phone and restore from backup, and I don't know that the phone is backed up--is there any way to get to an interface where I can enter the passcode, at this point?
