macOS Monterey 12.5 and trackpad issues still persisting

So, I just installed MacOS 12.5 and to my annoyance the trackpad issues that where introduced with macOS 10.0 still not have been resolved/fixed:

I know , these are not the most common features, but hey, if they are offered they should work properly.

Issue No. 1 - Tap To Click:

If tap to click is enabled you almost never can use it in conjunction with Shift/Option/Cmd or other secondary keys.

So Cmd + Tap on a link only will open the link after 3-4 tries.

Same goes for Shift + Tap for selecting file-ranges in Finder. Also will only select them after a few tries.

Issue No. 2 - Erratic cursor behavior:

If zoom is enabled in the accessibility options (e.g. by using the trackpad and the Ctrl key) the cursor will often just jump to the bottom left of the screen.

Has already been discussed here:

Cursor jumps to bottom, left corner of my… - Apple Community

It got even worse in 10.5: If you enabled active corners in the system preferences and go to the upper left corner, the cursor will almost immediately jump to the lower left corner.

All this can be "fixed" by deactivating the mouse zoom feature in the accessibility settings, but I actually really like this feature.

So please Apple: Fix this basic problems! We are already five iterations into this!

To echo previous posting above.

Can not duplication the issue on similar M1 MBA first running 12.01 and every newer version of Monterey including 12.5

Since the User ( you ) has already concluded " There is no possible solution as this is a Monterey bug that has been around since Monterey was released. " your best course of actions to be taken

1 - Do as perviously suggested and send Apple a Bug Report

2 - Arrange for the machine in question to be evaluated by Apple Authorized Service Provider or a Genius at an Apple Store

It's not that I concluded that, it's because this is a well known bug:

Tap to click many times not workin… | Apple Developer Forums

control+tap and command+tap do not work - Apple Community

I also wen't to an Apple Store and could reproduce this on every Mac in the store.

Sometimes it's working for some time, but then it starts to behaving erratically again.

Can also reproduce this on and older MacBook Pro 15" that was updated to Monterey.

Worked flawlessly before.

I already filed a bug report with Apple.

Sorry, 10.0 was a typo. It was meant to say 12.0.

There is no possible solution as this is a Monterey bug that has been around since Monterey was released.

To reproduce:

  • Enable tap to click in trackpad settings in system preferences
  • Go to any website and Cmd + Tap on any link to open in a new tap. Most of the time this will only work after 3-4 clicks.
  • Another example:
    • Open a directory in finder in list mode.
    • Tap on any file to select it
    • Tap + Shift on another file to select a range
    • This will also only work after a few attempts

Q - " So, I just installed MacOS 12.5 and to my annoyance the trackpad issues that where introduced with macOS 10.0 still not have been resolved/fixed: "

A - Maybe a typo but OS X 10.0 code named Cheetah ? Released in 2001 ?

A - Is this an Old Issue ? If Yes, what actions has the user taken to fix this issue ?

After all,  we do not what to suggest possible solutions for what has already been attempted by the User

Understand, we are all working Remotely from all around the world.

Therefore, we do not have the On-Hands experience the User ( you ) has with this computer.

Reliable , accurate, details and context will really help to pinpoint a possible solution.

By virtue of the wording " There is no possible solution as this is a Monterey bug that has been around since Monterey was released. " your best course of actions to be taken" it is reasonable by inferred that a conclusion has been reached - IMHO.

There has been sufficient advise offered, from more than one Contributor, for the User ( you ) to make an informed and educated choice what the next course of action is required.

The suggestions have been put forth on a volunteer basis, in good faith and in the best interests of the computer.

That is, unless there is some other agenda in play
