Apple Care+ Abroad

I am going to France soon. I have Apple Care+ with Theft and Loss. If my phone gets stolen in France. Can I place a claim for a new one when I return to the US? That is, will I be able to get a new phone in the US covered by apple care+ despite the fact my old phone was lost outside the US?
